NEW DELHI: One woman and four children were killed and at least seven were injured after a three-storey building collapsed in Delhi on Wednesday.
The woman who died was Munni, said the police. Two brothers, aged around 10 years, and a boy and his sister, both below five, also died in the incident at Ashok Vihar in northwest Delhi.
Several people are still feared trapped under the debris and rescue teams are working to pull them out, the police said.
A call at 9.25 am alerted the police and fire services to the building crash. Six fire engines were sent to the spot, an officer said.
Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been mobilised for rescue operations, a spokesperson of the agency said.
A senior North Delhi Municipal Corporation official said the building was about 20 years old. Its structure was weak and in a deteriorated condition.
The Delhi government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the building collapse.
